Find out how to get started in the nursing profession and the many online degree programs options accessible to you. Getting a nursing degree is one of the best decisions you can make for your future. Strong demand for nurses across the country suggests that the nursing profession has a bright future in the United States. There are now more over 3.1 million RNs in the United States, as reported by the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). Between 2021 and 2031, the BLS anticipates a 6% rise in the number of registered nurses employed and a 46% increase in the number of nurse practitioners (NPs).

One can get a credential to become a certified nursing assistant (CNA) or licensed practical nurse (LPN), or an associate’s, bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree in nursing.

Undergraduate online degree programs, nursing programs can launch a nursing career. Diploma or certificate undergraduate nursing programs exist. Undergraduate nursing programs include associate degrees. Both programs prepare you for your daily RN tasks, although they differ in some ways.

ADN graduates earn college degrees, while nursing diploma grads do not. Diploma students may obtain college credit for courses if their program is associated with a college or university. This helps ADN and BSN candidates.

Diplomas and ADNs differ in duration and location. Hospitals, medical facilities, and vocational colleges conduct diploma or certificate programs. Nursing diploma applicants only need 12 months of practical training in infection control, emergency procedures, and personal care. ADN students must attend community college for 24 months. ADN students may study behavioral health, maternal and child nursing, and pharmacology.

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)

This undergraduate nursing degree doesn’t require a bachelor’s degree or nursing experience. Its 48–60-month curriculum educates students for a variety of nursing professions. Some online degree programs offer expedited 36-month programs. If you have an ADN or bachelor’s degree in another field, you can enroll in the accelerated program.

Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN)

MSN degree programs are for nursing students and professionals who want to work in advanced practice nursing, whether that means leading, becoming an expert in a care area, or changing health care policy. They combine general nursing courses with specialist curriculum.

Nursing Doctorate (DNP)

If you want to teach nursing, you need a Ph.D., not a DNP. A nursing Ph.D. requires extensive study, yet it may not equip students for advanced clinical practice.

However, like with any job, there are various aspects to examine to ensure you are making the pay you seek and deserve.

The Advantages of a Nursing Career

Graduate Degree creates Nursing jobs often by providing a wide range of benefits due to the strong demand for nurses. Health insurance, dental and vision insurance, paid time off, and, in some cases, tuition price reimbursement, life insurance, and childcare help are examples of these benefits.

These advantages are sometimes thought of as perks or intangible benefits, but they are vital to consider when assessing job offers because they are an integral element of an employment package that includes your compensation.

RN Salary Trends and Nursing Salaries

The average registered nurse income in the United States is presently $69,790 per year, which is much more than the national wage average for all jobs, which is $47,230 per year. However, real earnings for nurses vary greatly depending on a number of circumstances. According to the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics, RN wages range from $45,880 per year in the lowest 10% to $98,880 per year in the best 10%. That’s a rather big difference, from $22.06 to $47.54 per hour.

Average Annual Salary | Percentile Bracket

90% | $98,880

75% | $81,080

50% | $66,640

25% | $54,620

10% | $45,880

Some of the wage discrepancy can be attributed to experience. As with any profession, nurses with greater experience are paid more. However, four other major criteria influence RN salaries: education, position, industry, and location. Here’s how each component affects RN wage trends.

EDUCATION

A high level of knowledge and expertise is required to work as a nurse. As a result, states demand certification and/or license before working as a nurse. There are several certificates and licenses available, and in each instance, you must complete a specified amount of schooling from an accredited nursing school and then pass an examination.

Nursing programs are designed to allow you to start working at an entry level while still continuing your education to acquire additional certifications, degrees, and licenses as you get more experience. Alternatively, you can attend a four-year college and qualify to work as a licensed registered nurse (RN) and earn a better pay.
